It is possible to achieve ionic conductivity by introducing special functionalities (e.g. sulfonic acid groups or ethylene oxide units) into the ORMOCER® matrix.

Proton as well as lithium conductors are produced using this method. Ionically conductive ORMOCER®s are used in lithium batteries, supercapacitors, fuel cells and electrochromic windows.

The ORMOCER®s can be applied using various methods, e.g. dip or spin-on coating, blading or printing.

Apart from excellent conductivity (Li ion conductors: 10-4 S/cm, proton conductors: 10-2 S/cm, both values measured at room temperature), these materials feature reduction, oxidation and dimensional stability up to 100 °C and higher, which means that new and complex battery types can be developed with the help of ORMOCER® ion conductors.
