The problem Plastics are good insulators by their very nature, with a surface resistance of > 1014 Ohms, which makes them very prone to electrostatic charge. This causes dust particles to be attracted and bound to the surface. Such particles cause soiling and lead to scratched surfaces due to abrasion during cleaning processes. The solution: ORMOCER® antistatic coatings By reducing the surface resistance to a range of < 1011 Ohms with the help of electrically conductive materials, the electrostatic buildup is prevented or reduced and the accumulation of dust particles is stopped. Scratch resistant, antistatic coating materials can be produced by adding special silanes with polar or ionic groups during the lacquer synthesis. Properties ORMOCER® antistatic coatings lead to a significant reduction in the specific surface resistance of the substrates, thus preventing the attraction of dust or soil particles. Other properties of the coating material: - Adhesion (DIN EN ISO 2409) Gt: 0-1
- Condensation water test (DIN 50 017): Stable
- Taber-Abraser test (ASTM D 1044 - 85): 1.2 % light scattering (after 100 cycles)
- Spec. surface resistance of
- polycarbonate (PC): 1015 Ohms
- unmodified ORMOCER® on PC: 1015 Ohms
- antistatically modified ORMOCER® on PC: 108 Ohms
Applications Permanent colorless antistatic finishing of material surfaces (e.g. plastics) combined with good abrasion resistance.
